Your Real Health Benefit Plan...

Updated: Aug 4

Life was meant to be lived!

Have you ever wondered why most medical plans are called Health Care Plans? Companies like Anthem Blue Cross and United Health Care market their plans as essential health benefits that you can't live without. And, in many ways, they are right! However, what they truly offer is illness care, not wellness or health care. Until you are ill, you rarely access the benefits of these plans.

Imagine a life where you rarely need to use these plans beyond annual physicals and vaccines. If you never got ill enough to need these benefits, what would that mean for the quality and length of your life?

In today's world, it might be impossible to avoid illness entirely. But how can you be proactive in guiding your health and wellness to maximize the quality and length of your life? The answer is a Health Club Membership, commonly known as a gym membership. This membership provides access to a proactive health and wellness plan that puts control of the same back in your hands.

With a "frequently used" gym membership, it is likely that you will live a healthier, happier, and longer life. Whether it’s Planet Fitness, LA Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Equinox, Lifetime Fitness or any other, the specific gym doesn't matter. What matters is that you do the work: choose your price point, location, amenities, and sign up. Use your power of personal choice to buy and use a health and wellness benefit plan!

As my mom, Mrs. Vivian, would often say, "I'm not telling you what I think; I'm telling you what I know." For my entire adult life, I have maintained a gym membership that I use at least five days a week. Now, at age 66 - (picture above taken this morning - 08/03/24 at the hotel gym in Albany - yes, I always choose hotels that include a decent gym), - I am working on adding a six-pack to my "fit by 70" goal with the help of a personal trainer and nutritionist. Actually, I am almost there - can you say 66 with a 6 pack!

Since I was 20, I have aimed to be fit and healthy by my next decade birthday - 30, 40, 50, 60, now 70, and so on. This goal has been crucial in maintaining my proactive commitment to health and wellness through daily use of my proactive Health Care Plan. I plan to continue this goal until my time is up, and if I live to 100 or longer, that will be 2058 - 34 more years!

So, what does all of this have to do with living life to the fullest? The healthier, happier, and longer you live, the fuller your life will be. Isn't that what we all want? At 66, I feel vibrant, alive, alert, strong, focused, and vital. I engage with the world every day to the fullest, living and working in multiple cities, traveling regularly, and creating value wherever possible. What I want for myself, I want for everyone, including you! Tomorrow is not promised, but being fit and healthy will enable you to live tomorrow to the fullest.

I wrote this blog post on a flight from Albany, NY to DC, on my way to Cincinnati. I am returning from one of the most amazing weddings I've ever attended in the Catskills. It had all the excitement, last-minute twists and turns that would make a great movie! Perhaps the story will be told someday - the couple are both actors so that is not too far fetched of an idea!

As I was waiting to board my flight, I was texting with a new friend that I met on a retreat in July of this year. During our text exchange he commented that I seemed to be living my best life! And he was right! When we met he thought that I was in my early 40s! Goal achieved! In my head I feel 44, lol.

So now I want to encourage you to seize control of your life today by enrolling in a Health and Wellness Benefit Plan that will keep you healthy, at the gym of your choice. If you are committed to health and wellness, take the following additional steps:

  1. Purchase and read the book Body for Life by Bill Phillips.

  2. Write down a Fitness & Health goal to be completed 90 days from today. Use the format: "I will weigh _____ lbs by //____." or "I will lose ___ lbs by //__." The important principle here is to call those things that are not as though they were, and they will be!

  3. If you are are really serious, find a personal trainer and ask them to connect you with a nutritionist to assist with diet, sleep, and other habits, and design a plan to compliment achievement of your goal.

You can do this! Your future health, happiness, and quality of life depend on it. And… if I can help through my Life Transformation Through Goal Achievement One-on-One Coaching Program, complete the contact us form or email me at markgoalscoach@gmail.com with a request for more information.

No matter where you are, you can make the rest of your life the best of your life through goal achievement! Remember this age old adage, “if you don’t use it, you lose it”.

And finally, remember this… every person that achieves any goal, starts where they are with what they have and who they already know! In other words they simply begin!
